Tips for a Super Successful Year!

Year 3 (Advanced Ag)

• Volunteer to mentor 9th grade ag students (August)

• Bring summer records to school (September)

• Attend Welcome Back Picnic (September)

• Set new goals for your SAE, related to career goals

• Sign up for a Fall CDE (September – November)

• Use a calendar, smart phone, or computer to record SAE activities

• Work on State Degree Requirements

• Compete in a speaking contest

• Complete your AG manuscript/speech requirements (September- October)

• Attend FFA Meetings

• Apply for Chapter Degree or State Degree

• Update “MyAgCN” account

• Join a FFA Committee

• Meet with College recruiters who visit MHS (Fall)

• Sign up for a Spring CDE (February-April)

• Create a spreadsheet/file of potential scholarships

• Apply for Chapter Degree (January)

• Visit the MHS Career Center to write resume (Spring)

• Visit Colleges/Post-Secondary Programs (March- May)

• Run for FFA Office (April-May)

• Attend Open House (April)

• Apply for Banquet Awards (April)

• Go to the FFA Awards Banquet (May)

• Attend State FFA Conference (May or June)

Required - Speech & Manuscript!

All students are required to write a speech manuscript and present the speech orally. We have had great success over the years with the speech requirement. Students of all abilities have presented the speech over the years. Please, consult with Mrs. Isaacson if you need help meeting this requirement. Supervised Agricultural Experience

NOTE: A waiver for non-paid work experience must be filed in order for volunteer hours to count for SAE credit. Non-paid work experience is only eligible for SAE credit if at an official non-profit organization.

Career Development Events

The Career Development Event (CDE) opportunities for FFA members still exist. We strongly encourage all members to participate in the CDE. No experience or prior knowledge necessary. The agriculture teachers will teach you what you need to know. 

In the Classroom...

Required!

Advanced Ag students will enter a unit he/she selected. Advanced students were given a list of all units offered. Students then selected the units based on his/her individual areas of interest. Advanced students can tailor their educational experience to meet the needs of their future career goals. Advanced students must also take take units in agricultural business. Agricultural business units are designed to give students the building blocks to start and operate their own business.
