Today, Superintendent Dr. Vázquez Matos (Dr. V) made history! He is the 1st Connecticut Superintendent to ride in an electric airplane. This is thanks to Mr. Paul Pelletier, who directs the Middletown Aerospace program. While at Brainard Airport, Dr. V, accompanied by Assistant Superintendents Stacey McCann & Jen Cannata, Director of Communications Jessie Lavorgna, & Assistant to the Superintendent Joyce Carey, toured Aquiline Drones, an enormously successful Black-owned, small, and innovative Aerospace business based in Connecticut. To wrap it all up, they visited with a group of MPS students participating in a free weeklong aerospace workshop with Mr. Pelletier. Thanks to grant funding, we were able to purchase 10,000 books for our students. Take a look at a typical day in The Innovation Center at Beman Middle School. 6th grade students in Mr. Yearwood's science classes wrapped up their life science unit by using technology to mimic bee behavior. The students programmed Spheros (coding robots) to travel to paths to different pictures of flowers spread out on the floor, simulating the path bees take as they pollinate. Lots of critical thinking and problem solving, mixed with fun!

Today we celebrated 17 MHS Student-Athletes that have signed a letter of commitment to play at the next level. Congratulations! Being a student-athlete is no easy feat. We are proud of all of you.
