Recognizing Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week

On Monday, September 14, 2026, Middletown Mayor Gene Nocera presented a proclamation to Middletown Adult Education in recognition of Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week, which spans the week of September 14-18. Several students were on hand for this recognition, along with Ralph D'Amato, Middletown Adult Education Director, and Jennifer Cannata, Assistant Superintendent of Administration for Middletown Public Schools.

Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week has been recognized nationally by the National Coalition for Literacy since 2009. The Coalition, in partnership with U.S. congressional leaders, uses the week to raise awareness about the importance of adult education and family literacy, and increase the visibility of such programs in communities across the country.

These programs focus on high-quality, student-centered educational pathways to allow adults to achieve their educational and workforce goals, while also strengthening their connections to the community.
