Puerto Rican Rice and Beans in Ms. Bakulski's Advanced Cooking Class

Today, Dr. Llantin-Cruz had the honor of visiting Ms. Bakulski’s Advanced Cooking class, where students had just finished preparing a Puerto Rican favorite: arroz con habichuelas (rice and beans)! 🇵🇷

The first question, of course, was, “Did you use sofrito?” The answer? ¡Sí! They even used sazón! These students did such an amazing job that by the end of class, we were enjoying el pegao — the delicious, crispy rice at the bottom of the pot. ¡Delicioso! 😋

Future chefs are making their mark at Middletown High School!
