The Middletown High School Counseling Department Welcomes You!

The mission of the Middletown High School Counseling department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental program that includes academic, Social/Emotional, and career development of all students in partnership with other educators, caregivers, and community stakeholders.

The vision of the Middletown High School comprehensive school counseling program is to facilitate equal access to a comprehensive school counseling program for all students.  The Middletown school counseling program will promote collaboration between school counselors, educators, caregivers, and other community stakeholders to broaden opportunities and to ensure that the needs and goals of all students are addressed and each student will be college and or career ready.

Calendar of Activities

Activities ongoing throughout the year:

School Counselors work to service students holistically and traditionally work in three domains: Social/Emotional Development, Academic Development, and Career Development. At MHS students receive these services all year in various modalities. Some of those include:

  • Individual Counseling- within the 3 domains
  • Group Counseling- within the 3 domains
  • Curriculum developed by counselors and delivered by teachers in
  • PRIDE Advisory
  • Consultation with stakeholders (parents, teachers, administrators, and
  • community organizations)
  • Case manages 504 plans and a team member for PPT meetings

    • Update "Program of Studies" (review course selection card and booklet)
    • Attend credit withdrawal hearings
    • Meet with students inpidually for course selection
    • Meet with Alternative Education staff/teachers to update credits
    • Begin preparation for Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT)
    • Continue with course selection for upcoming year
    • CAPT administration
    • Work with students and parents on progress reports

    • Register non-public school 8th graders for upcoming year
